Robert Ashley
Robert Ashley is a very obvious influence on LA. His work has a lot in
common with Laurie's, although it is completely singular stuff. He also
tells stories to music, but the stories are usually more inscrutable, and
the musich is more complex. Try to get a hold of his "opera for
television," Perfect Lives (Private Parts) There is also a documentary
of his work floating around, along with companions which feature John
Cage, Philip Glass, and Meredith Monk.(also good artists to check out)
