Bootleg Trading

Trading bootlegs is an illegal activity. My guess at the reasoning behind this law is that if people have copies of the artist's work, then they will be less likely to purchase the work legitimately. I am also concerned with this effect. For that reason I discourage any trading and recording of bootlegs that are still in print. If you can buy it, do so. For me, I'd buy a copy of anything Laurie put out. Indeed, I have done always done so. If I had a choice between "The Nerve Bible" on CD or on bootleg, of course I'd take the CD. But until "The Nerve Bible" comes out on disc or video, I'll keep my bootleg. If anyone convinces me that what I am doing somehow hurts Laurie Anderson, then I will stop.

Also I think it's unethical to sell bootlegs for a profit. Please don't do this, and certainly don't use the information here to help your little slimy business. This page is to promote Laurie's work, and cater to the needs of Laurie fanatics, not to make any money.

If you don't have any to trade, someone on this list might be willing to copy the boot onto a tape for you, and you can pay for the postage and the tape. This is not making a profit. Remember, don't sell. Trade (or give away out of the kindness of your heart) only. Thanks.

How to Submit information

To submit information, please email to jim@jimdavies.org information in the format shown. If you send it coded in html already, I'll smile happily. That is, but a br imbedded in angle brackets after every line. (View source to see what I mean.

Title is the name of the concert or work.
Source is where the stuff came from, and when.
Length is how long it is. Times are ok, as are entries such as "one track" or "short."
Generation is how many times it's been recorded. If you taped it yourself, it's first generation. All copies made from that tape are second generation, and tapes made from those are third, etc. If you got a copy from someone and don't know what generation it is, then it's at least second generation, so write 2+.
